2019 elections

The latest unofficial city election results now show just five votes separate Julia Mejia and Alejandra St. Guillen for the fourth at-large seat on the city council. Both campaigns have been collecting signatures for a recount of what, on election night, seemed to be a ten-vote election win for Mejia.

Matt McCloskey has compiled a map showing which at-large candidates won which precincts in yesterday's council election. As she did in the September preliminary, incumbent and top finisher Michelle Wu came in first in the most precincts across the city, by far.

Ricardo Arroyo, son of one former city councilor and brother of another, is looking like he'll be replacing Tim McCarthy in Hyde Park, Roslindale and Mattapan, while Liz Breadon is defeating Craig Cashman in Allston/Brighton in the race to replace Mark Ciommo. Read more.

At a debate at WGBH tonight, Craig Cashman and Liz Breadon made one of their last pitches to voters on why they should replace Mark Ciommo, retiring as the District 9 (Allston/Brighton) city councilor after 12 years. Whoever wins will serve two years.

People with campaign signs for city-council candidates line both sides of Centre Street at Park Street this evening as part of the Steve Slyne/Harry Truman Society pre-election rally before everybody piled into the Irish Social Club to continue the festivities and hear candidates make last-minute pitches. Liz Breadon and Craig Cashman, running for the District 9 council seat being vacated by Mark Ciommo, are scheduled to meet in a candidates forum at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at WGBH, 15 Guest St.

The forum is sponsored by the Brighton Allston Improvement Association, the Allston and Brighton boards of trade and the Ward 21 and Ward 22 Democratic committees.

Boston Police report arresting a South Boston man they say walked into at-large City Councilor Michael Flaherty's campaign office on East Broadway around 10:40 a.m. and made "threats towards an elected official and his staff" - while on the lam from a car chase earlier in the morning. Read more.

A forum for at-large City Council candidates in West Roxbury this evening focused on two issues of concern mainly to the neighborhood: A city proposal to reduce the number of lanes on Centre Street from four to three between the Holy Name rotary and Spring Street to promote pedestrian safety and a proposal by Roxbury Prep to build a high school on the site of the former Clay Chevrolet on Belgrade Avenue at West Roxbury Parkway. The Bellevue Hill Improvement Association hosts a forum for the newly slimmed down field of candidates for at-large city-council seats at 7 p.m. on Monday at St. George Orthodox Church Hall, 55 Emmonsdale Rd. in West Roxbury.

In yesterday's preliminary election, voters selected eight candidates to face off for four at-large seats in the Nov. 5 final election: Michelle Wu , Michael Flaherty, Annissa Essaibi-George, Alejandra St. Guillen, Julia Mejia, Althea Garrison, Erin Murphy and David Halbert.

In the at-large race, incumbent Michelle Wu is topping the field, by a lot, followed by fellow incumbents Michael Flaherty and Annissa Essaibi-George. Read more.

On Tuesday, Boston voters will narrow the field for candidates for at-large candidates and for candidates in several districts.

Voters can choose up to four at-large candidates, and will narrow the current field of 15 to 8 for the November final election. In District 5 (Roslindale, Mattapan, Hyde Park), District 7 (Roxbury), District 8 (Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Fenway, Mission Hill) and District 9 (Allston/Brighton), voters will narrow the field to two candidates for November. There are no preliminaries in the other districts.
