Charlie Redd, owner of Redd's in Rozzie on Washington Street, posts a call to arms against the gathering darkness:
The resistance begins now. Trump is an obvious danger to the rights I believe in and that this business is built around. Why fight? Because we are fucking Americans. That’s what we do, fight. Fight for values we hold dear. Just because I lie on the liberal view of the issues doesn’t mean I don’t have the will to fight. Just because we live in Massachusetts and are protected from the madness that will be unleashed on our other states does that give us a reason not to speak up and act? I will fight for the other states and in this state. I will fight for the ones that can’t. Right now that’s my daughters and all the girls growing up today in this confusing time where the end of male dominance in the Oval Office was ripped from their dreams and a whole other peril to their rights entered it. Olive and Viola cannot fight. But I can. Cecilia, who I tutor in the 2nd grade, cannot fight. Her family is laying low as their future as immigrant Americans lies in jeopardy. I can fight for them. I can stand up when they cannot.

Too bad dmcboston tried to hijack the thread with Ben McDonald's citation of Laci Green tweets, which have almost nothing to do with Charlie Redd.
dmcboston seems to be making the argument that "many of them" -- people who disapprove of Trump -- sound like nutbags. It's such a clever and thoughtful critique. People who disapprove of Trump are nutbags.
In Mass., there were two non Trump voters for every Trump voter. I don't think Trump is going to win any popularity contests in this state. That said, let's talk about Charlie Redd's post.

And a good morning to you, too.
Hijack? The only difference between Laci's insane rant and Redd's insane rant is, um, not much.
Substitute "Obama" for "Trump", set the clock back a bit and this thread would be Godwinned in about nine seconds.
After reading the introduction to Redd's rant, I decided that there was no way in hell I was going to give him a page hit. It's an obscenity laced pile of borderline insane invective.
"Cecilia, who I tutor in the 2nd grade, cannot fight. Her family is laying low as their future as immigrant Americans lies in jeopardy."
Nonsense. Unless her parents are gangbangers or felonious in other ways, there's not much chance of them going anywhere.
Trump didn't carry Massachusetts. Oh, well, there are other states. Many other states.
It's not that people who disapprove of Trump are nutbags. It's that people that go on rants about "The resistance begins now. " don't sound too level headed. No, I won't 'read the whole thing'.

We're two Bostonians surrounded by drunk people in pickups flying large Confederate flags as they drive down their equivalent of Rte. 1. Of course we were polite - and then we enjoyed one of the best fireworks shows ever because apparently down South they like seeing the rocket's red glare a lot more up close than fire marshals up here would allow.
But fuck this "culture" crap. Grits and the accent and hospitality are culture. The stars and bars is not culture: It's treason. And failure. And death.

I had a similar not-recommended experience near Leesburg, VA about 8 years ago. Once someone heard me talk (I suppose I have something of a hybrid northeastern USA accent), a previously pleasant interaction turned to me being given the silent treatment.
A similar thing happened in, of all places, Switzerland, when I pulled a girl back into our whitewater raft after she had been ejected. It was all, "thanks! thanks!" until I told her I was from Massachusetts. She and her friends were from Georgia (state, not Republic). I couldn't believe it.

Seriously, you've just forgotten the last eight years and the refusal to accept the fact the president was not a Kenyan-born Muslim out to confiscate your guns and bury opponents under Texas Walmarts? It was kind of a big deal, it was in all the papers, and if you can't remember something like that, might I suggest an appointment with a neurologist?
In the meantime, though, you might want to Google "First Amendment" and read it. It's really short, won't take you more than a minute to go through it all, even if you have to sound out each word. It ensures one of our fundamental rights: To speak out and to protest. Over the past eight years, conservatives made ample use of that amendment. Are you suggesting the other side not be allowed to do so?

"Am I asking way too much to give it time to see how this thing plays out?"
Yes, you are. I think the President elect has already showed how it's going to play out. His inadequate and unqualified picks for his cabinet/administration has shown what he is going to do to this country (and don't dismiss his white supremacist friends that he has decided to also include in his administration).
I know it's easier to white wash things to make yourselves feel better rather than admit that maybe the revolution you so wanted is actually going to screw so many already marginalized people never mind our standing in the world. But hey, as long as you're not the one suffering – right? Being a racist is ok! Being a sexual assaulter is OK! Denigrating women, minorities, immigrants - hey, it's all ok!!!
YOU may not be a racist, misogynistic, xenophobe but If you voted for him you did in fact vote for racism, misogyny and xenophobia. Your vote basically said " I am ok with all of the above behavior as long as I don't feel marginalized - it's ok for other people to be marginalized - just not me. Oh and coal."
I find it funny how many Trump voters are talking about "let's see what happens, "give the guy a chance", "let's work together" when for the last 8 years the right blocked everything they could and made no qualms about saying they would do just that the day Obama got into office. And they did in grand style. And then everyone blames the liberals and the President for their perceived slights but not the actual people doing the blocking; the Republicans - it's never, ever the Republicans. It's always someone else. Of course one of their best is blocking the Supreme court pick of the current president but I guess you are ok with that too. But I am sure if the Dems do it against Trump's picks they will be called un-American and what a travesty it will be.
So yes, I am sorry - at this point you are asking too much. People's lives and rights are literally on the line. Maybe it doesn't affect you. Maybe you are male…maybe you are a white male. Maybe you're not. Maybe you were just uniformed. Maybe you were informed and wanted to throw a grenade into the political landscape no matter the consequences to women and minorities. Maybe you voted against your own interests b/c you didn't care that he had no plan and is unqualified. Maybe you don't care that this guy just spouts bullshit, isn't a fan of facts and data and is more concerned with Alec Baldwin's portrayal of him rather than real issues.
All I know is that the right seems to have a really, really short memory.

Trump's cabinet picks are completely horrible.
Lets start with Rick Perry for Energy Secretary. This is the same Rick Perry who wants to get rid of the Department of Energy, only he is so god damn dumb that he couldn't think of the name of it during the debate. Rick Perry, who got Cs and Ds in college, will be succeeding a Nobel Prize winner that Obama appointed.
Trump's pick for secretary of education never attended a public school, never sent a kid to a public school and never worked at a public school. She is a religious nut who wants to destroy public schools so that tax money can instead be sent to crazy christian schools. Her brother ran a company that murdered people for money(Blackwater) and her husband runs a pyramid scheme(Amway). They are a horrible family is what I am pointing out.
His pick of secretary of state is the head of ExxonMobil. Enough said. His pick for HUD is a surgeon with no experience in that field who himself admitted he will be a "fish out of water".

LOL...so why is everyone so looking forward to General Mattis's appointment? Well, it's obvious. His nickname is 'Mad Dog'. The Marines call him 'Mad Dog'.
So, he's got that going for him.
The Congress, in what will be called by the talking heads,"the total destruction of the Republic, Constitution, America, our way of life, oh, and racism" will pass a law, probably of three sentences or less, qualifying General Mattis for the post. Easy peasey.
From the web site you cited, "Having retired in 2013, Mattis needs a special waiver to serve, as U.S. law bans uniformed military officers from being secretary of defense for seven years after leaving active duty. Barno, now based at American University, echoed Dunlap's view that more retired generals don't necessarily equate to more foreign military interventions. "The military leaders that [Trump] has selected will bring a very sober voice about the risks of using military power," he said. "So I think the military people will bring a cautionary note to a number of these campaigns, in some cases more than some civilian leaders might in the past."

crisis AND the salvation
By Stevil
Wed, 01/04/2017 - 1:28pm
Read what I wrote:
"crisis and the salvation from it were effectively orchestrated mostly by the Federal Reserve"
The Fed was in charge of regulating the banks - and dropped the ball when numerous talking heads were screaming about what was going on with derivatives to anyone that would listen (though many others played a part in the collapse - perhaps in part even Bush - though his role was small and mainly in the form of cheerleading impossible growth in home ownership).
Washington (both the White House and Congress - has done effectively nothing to revive the economy - it did that on its own with A LOT of help from Ben and later Janet (to their credit - some of their early moves were brilliant - more recently QE and near zero interest rates not so much).
My concern now are the dislocations from easy money/leverage for the rich - which has exploded the stock market, luxury real estate and cheap debt for wealthy corporations using it to financially engineer their stock prices. God (and not Janet Yellen) only knows if the Fed can engineer a soft landing/withdrawal of what may be ludicrous policies.
And if you must know my voting record at least in presidential elections since 2000 - try determining my allegiance from this in the last 5 presidential elections: R-D-R-D-I

Fascinating to see the far-left continue to blame conservatives for the "born in Kenya" controversy when Obama first put it out there himself. Or if you believe his publicist, some youngster at the agency decided to make it up but was powerful enough to get it in print from 1991-2007. This is akin to blaming the victim. Obama or his publicist lied, people took them at their word and now are blamed for believing what was written. Even far-left Snopes confirms the story. Stop blaming conservatives.

First, Snopes is not far-left, as I can tell. They are pretty even handed when it comes to outing crap (like the stuff you tend to traffic in). Second, you might want to go back and re-read Snope's entry on this. The point is not that Obama was born in Kenya or that he "put it out there" (cripes).
Oh heck, read this "The editor of the biographical text about Barack Obama which was included in the booklet maintained that the mention of Kenya was an error on her part and was not based on any information provided to her by Obama himself."
