My prayers go out to the young man's family and the train engineer.Do the police check the rails for trespassers and are they arrested or taken home to their parents if caught crossing the tracks.

The area of the accident near Endicott station is not easily accessible. There are some wooded areas around there and closer to the Dedham Corp center stop that are known to have areas where kids hang out and there are multiple access hiking paths. Those areas are off RR property. Best guess here is that he was going to or from. The question is why he didn't see or hear the train or stay off the tracks themselves.

If it was near the station, then of course there's easy access - the station. And once you're on the tracks, you can just keep walking in either direction. There is a pond between Endicott and the Legacy Place station where kids sometimes go, but I doubt they're up there in this weather. I occasionally walk that stretch myself coming home from Legacy Place or Route 1. And it's no surprise that you might not hear the train - they're pretty quiet running. I always walk on the opposite side tracks, and even then I regularly look behind me just in case a train is running opposite the normal direction - which does happen occasionally.
