Transit Police report they are investigating what led a 24-year-old from Roxbury to drive into a stopped Route 240 bus around 10:30 a.m. on North Main Street in Randolph.
The car driver was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he died, police say. Nine passengers on the bus were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injures.
The bus and the 2007 Infiniti were towed from the scene, according to police.

I came fairly close to running into the back of a stopped T bus today. My wife said something that distracted me and I took my eyes off the road for a second. The bus was covered in salt and roadspray and exactly the same color as the salty road, so it took my brain a couple of extra seconds to process what I was seeing. It was close. I hope we get some rain tomorrow, so everything won't be so uniformly gray anymore.

Pay $2,00 to ride the bus for a chance to claim personal injury at taxpayer expense!
A 3,500 lb. car hits a stopped 15,000+ lb. bus, and 9 bus passengers have to go to the hospital??? Sounds like there are no cameras on that bus to catch people faking injury. I wonder if the bus driver had pulled over to the stop or was in the middle of the road, not that T drivers ever do that.

Assuming your vehicle mass estimates are accurate, don't you think a similary-ratioed impact of a 800 pound object slamming into a 3500 pound car at typical urban road speed - say 35mph - would be likely to produce legitimate (but non-life threatening) injury in the car's un-seatbelted passengers?
Or to bring it to human scale, let's say you weigh ~200lbs. If I let you wear as much padding as you like, and then threw a 40 lbs cement block at you as hard as I could, do you think it improbable that you might sustain an injury? I mean - just look at how light that block is compared to you!

That would raise the number of injuries, if people were standing up to get on or off the bus.

Physics? If people are standing, on a bus not moving, and an object with some velocity and mass hits this non-moving object...

--- it was at a stop, just beyond the old Holiiday Inn (now a Comfort Inn) at the new gas station. The car hit with enough force to crumple & compress the entire front of the vehicle.

I do so dearly hope you get the chance to test this hypothesis. Purely in the name of science, you understand.

Look up videos of busses crashing or stopping short. Nobody in the bus is wearing seatbelts, some people will be standing, etc. They'll get thrown pretty violently and without a seatbelt to stop them they will probably get injured.
One problem with your theory

The car driver who hit the stopped bus is clearly at fault here, not the driver of the bus. So the MBTA shouldn't have to pay out a single cent. And if they do, shame on them and we should all be seriously outraged.
