WBZ reports the vendor that got hacked and took down the statewide inspection system seems to have unhacked itself enough to let most inspection stations start up again on Saturday.

Gov. Baker said he's expecting the company, Aplus, to make good on any losses garages incurred because they couldn't do inspections.

He describes building a $60 home traffic-speed setup using a Raspberry Pi, a cheap camera, some open-source software and a bit of tape and cable ties, and then turning it on to monitor speeds on the street outside his home. State Police report they are looking for the driver of a white Ford Transit Connect van, whom they say hit a 72-year-old man as he was crossing McGrath Highway while carrying several bags of groceries from the Stop & Shop, then just kept on going, shortly before 8:40 p.m. on Monday. Read more.

Big beam

Yesterday, a trucker delivered this oversize-load sized steel beam to Robert Street in Roslindale Square so that, starting at 4 a.m. on Saturday, workers can begin to replace the bridge that now carries the Needham Line over the street. The bridge dates to 1898.

Remains of a car on Gallivan Boulevard

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to peel back the remains of crashed car outside 76 Gallivan Blvd. to rescue the three people inside, around 10:45 a.m. All were then transported to the hospital.

The RMV says vehicle-inspection stations across the state will remain shut as a key vendor on the system tries to recover from a hacker attack, and that there will be no inspections through at least Friday. Read more.

DCR announces that the traditional weekend banning of the cars on Memorial Drive in the Harvard Square area will start April 10 and run through Nov. 28: No cars allowed between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

WBZ reports somebody drove into the Whittier Street Health Center clinic at 278 Blue Hill Ave. around 3 a.m., but that the clinic is still planning on providing today's scheduled shots.

Smashed in entrance to Subway at South Huntington and Huntington avenues

Debbie Carmichael passed by the remains of the carnage at South Huntington and Huntington avenues, where somebody seems to have plowed into the Subway there sometime overnight. WCVB reports the crash was the end of a chase in which some guy allegedly was trying to flee Brookline Police.

Cambridge Police report a Lynn man who got a ticket for blocking the bike lane on Cambridge Street Saturday night made a show of ripping up the ticket and sprinkling it on the road as he drove away. Read more.
