Car into basement

A driver crashed into the basement of 614 East 3rd St., near L Street, shortly before 7:15 p.m. The Boston Fire Department reports 17 people were evacuated from 614 and 616 East 3rd St., and that the driver was taken to a local hospital.

Early yesterday, a driver slammed into McGoo's at Broadway and Dorchester Street.

Car that slammed into pizza place on Broadway in South Boston

The Boston Fire Department reports that a driver crashed into McGoo's Pizzeria on West Broadway at Dorchester Street around 1 a.m. The driver was taken to the hospital and six residents of the building had to be evacuated. Firefighters used a load-bearing column to shore up the building until it could be inspected and repaired.

State Police report a truck carrying a load of bananas overturned on the inbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike in Allston, near where the toll plaza used to be, shortly after 8 a.m. Read more.

The new look of Cummins Highway

The new, but still temporary, look of Cummins Highway, coming soon.

A city pilot aimed at making Cummins Highway safer by reducing the number of lanes from four to two and adding dedicated bicycle paths will be extended from Wood Avenue to American Legion Highway by the end of the month - as the city looks at more permanent changes along the thoroughfare - a Public Works project manager says. Car into building on Washington Street in Roslindale

Travel New England reports two cars crashed on Washington Street near Hayes Road in Roslindale around 12:40 p.m. One missed a hydrant, then plunged into a permanent trench that runs along the front of an apartment building at the intersection.

State Police report arresting a man they say stole a BWSC water-tank truck this afternoon, then took it for a ride all the way down to Rhode Island, then drove back into Massachusetts, where he was arrested after deciding he no longer wanted to drive a truck with a tired flattened by a "tire deflation device." Boston Police report arresting the man they say sent a woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries at Boylston and Charles streets yesterday afternoon after he crashed into a large granite pillar, showering her with heavy debris. Read more.

Smashed up truck at the Public Garden

Update: Suspect arrested.; friends set up GoFundMe page for victim.

The driver of a pickup truck slammed into a granite pillar along the edge of the Public Garden at Boylston and Charles streets around 4:30 p.m., seriously injuring somebody who was walking there at the time and doing major damage to the truck and the pillar. Read more.

The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that in the absence of state-mandated data on the race and ethnicity of drivers pulled over for traffic stops, minority drivers who feel they were targeted for enforcement no longer have to provide detailed statistical analysis of an officer's traffic stops to prove they were pulled over because of their race or ethnicity.
