A state trooper was ordered held in lieu of $2,500 cash bail today at his arraignment on charges of domestic violence, kidnapping and strangulation for an incident in May on the Southeast Expressway n Dorchester - which authorities say they only learned about when his now former girlfriend sought a restraining order against him last week, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. A man just one week out of the State Police Academy topped off a night of drinking in Boston by spinning out his SUV on the Expressway in an attempt to kiss his girlfriend early this morning, leading to a motorcyclist slamming into his stuck vehicle and dying, the Suffolk County District Attorney charges. Cruiser and jackknifed truck on 128 in Weston

State Police report a trooper on a construction detail on Rte. 128 southbound in Weston was seriously injured around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the driver of an 18-wheeler slammed into the back of the cruiser, destroying it and forcing his truck to jackknife across the highway.

The trooper, who was able to radio for help, was taken to a Boston hospital with serious injuries, State Police say.

WBZ reports that SPAM, which represents state troopers, says "dozens" are self-defunding and quitting rather than get a Covid-19 shot. Last week, a judge upheld a state requirement that troopers and other state employees be vaccinated by Oct. 17.

WBUR reports the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad got some loaners of Boston Dynamics's "Spot" robots - basically the pets a Terminator might have - and actually used them in the field at least twice. State Police declined to say exactly how they used them; the ACLU, of course, has some questions.

Update, 12 p.m. Mass EMA reports continued sporadic problems with wireless 911 calls.

State Police report that a problem at a Louisiana-based data network that had knocked wireless 911 service off the air in Massachusetts and other states overnight has been fixed. CenturyLink first noticed the problem, which it described only in vague terms, yesterday afternoon.

The US Attorney's office today reported the eighth indictment of a trooper for allegedly filing for pay for overtime he didn't work.

WBUR reported that in the midst of an overtime scandal, State Police sought permission from the Secretary of State's office to destroy "more than 160 boxes of documents tracking payroll, detail assignments, attendance and personnel records - some dating back as far as 26 years."
