Fresh off its victory over the sleeping peeps of Allston, Taco Bell is going to try to build another wee-hours taco-like emporium in Boston, this time at 1084 Boylston St., near Mass. Ave., where presumably starving (musical) artists from Berklee will quieren Taco Bell at the end of a long night.
The city Office of Neighborhood Services will hold a public meeting on a proposed liquor-serving Taco Bell Cantina - with proposed hours of 7 a.m. to 3 a.m., most days and 7 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Bowing to a statewide dictate, the last hour or hour and a half would be alcohol free, since state law forbids liquor sales in non-casino establishments past 2 a.m. The Zoom session starts at 7 p.m. on May 20.
Taco Bell Cantinas are the chain's attempt to upscale the concept of cheap Mexicanish food, in a setting that includes works by local artists on the wall and even some vegetarian options.
The proposal will need the approval of the Boston Licensing Board, which voted in September to let a Taco Bell Cantina stay open during those hours where Great Scott used to be at the corner of Harvard and Commonwealth avenues in Allston.
The Allston Civic Association had asked for a dine-in closing time of 1 a.m., not for fear o ne'er-do-welling at an intersection that already has a lateish-night McDonald's, but out of concern for the local police district, which already has its hands full dealing with the soused when area bars close.
In May, 2023, the board approved Indian and Japanese food until 2 a.m. on the block where the Taco Bell now wants to stretch things until 3 or 3:30, despite opposition from the Fenway Civic Association to Japanese food, at least, being served that late. At the time, the association fretted about that vote leading to even more late-night proposals.
H/t Scott.

Fenway/Kenmore lost its Taco Bell forever ago! This location is right next to Amelia's, but they close at 11pm which is depressing if you leave Bebop at 1am and want some Mexican(ish) food (first world fenway problems).
But first...

Kenmore lost Church's chicken... I used to go from Somerville to Kenmore just for fried okra back in the day.
I always liked Church's

I always liked Church's better than Popeyes. I too would travel for Church's chicken @Friartuck!

It's going on ten years now, but Taco Bell once proposed a 24-hour outlet on American Legion Highway, between the Wendy's and the Haley School in Roslindale, and residents beat that like a drum and so today the space remains home to the Mystery Soft Serve Stand (because you never know when it'll be open).

No Taco Bell mixed in (as opposed to the Taco Bell/Long John Silver combo over in West Roxbury).

Taco Bell is incredible drunk munchies. It’s cheapish. It’s got some kinda nostalgia attached to it for millennials and maybe gen x. It’s also junk food for when you’re craving junk food but wanna feel kinda ok with yourself when you wake up the next morning and see what you ate at 3am
It cannot compare...
