There’s a long simmering tension in the South End between more established residents and newcomers. Which manifests in clear animosity towards young families from some of the old guard, mothers toting children in particular. I lived in the south end and started a family there, and my wife and her friends experienced it firsthand.

and strollers are culturally more associated with women than men, so they're not totally off-base.
(But wow, yeah, I really dislike those SUV-size strollers too. We did fine with an umbrella stroller...)
