WCVB reports a trolley with five passengers onboard hit an out-of-service train sitting on the tracks at East Somerville shortly after midnight. One passenger was taken to the hospital with neck injuries, WCVB reports.
The T is running shuttle buses as it and the National Transportation Safety Board investigate the crash.
First-person account and photo from a rider.
On Oct. 1, a Green Line trolley derailed near Lechmere after its driver went through a red signal way too fast and hit a switch that was still changing position to put his train on the right track.

I don't know about u guys, but the shocker to me was up close photo of the train's wheel that gave out and twisted off the track. It's rusted dry brown and corroded.

I don't know about you guys, but my attention was frozen when I saw the shocking condition of the train's corroded, rusted, dry brown wheel that twisted off the track. Look at that damn shit.

Sounds like we need mandatory driver testing for MBTA drivers.
How you crash into another trolley seems impossible to me, but union proud!

One lousy driver can cause millions of dollars of damage and inconvenience thousands. The feds aren't going to pay to replace those trolleys.
This keeps happening with the green line and there's no excuse. Most new personal cars have a method of detecting stopped vehicles ahead so there's readily available technology that would greatly reduce these crashes.
They are working on it

"At the time, Eng said the agency anticipated being able to implement the first phase of the plan, audible warning alerts, in 2025."
Ah, yes... "anticipated"
Tired of this.

Absolutely tired of the incompetence on the green line. They spent billions on new fare systems and they can’t even hire competent operators. I’d like to see what the criteria is for train conductors
