The T shut the Orange Line at Tufts and requested Boston firefighters around 7:30 p.m. when something related to the third rail on the outbound side began to smoke - possibly a heater installed along the power source.
The problem with finding the exact source was that the smoke dissipated when the T shut off power in both directions so that firefighters could walk along the tracks looking for the problem.
The T reported at 9:45 p.m. it had fixed the problem, power was turned back on and the trains were running again.

You had me totally confused. The Orange came no where nearTufts.I worked at Tufts University for 14 years, Before the new Green line stop was added, the best you could do by subway was to transfer to the Redline and get off at Davis Square, and then tromp the half mile to campus.
