The Boston Teachers Union announced tonight that its negotiators have reached a tentative deal for a new contract - and that because of that, it's calling off its plans for a rally before Mayor Wu's state of the city address Wednesday.
In a statement, BTU President Erik Berg said:
This tentative agreement includes important guarantees such as improved in-classroom staffing levels for students with disabilities; meaningful changes to wages especially for paraprofessionals; and other key improvements to learning and working conditions in the Boston Public Schools.
Teachers have worked without a contract since Aug. 31.

I sympathize with the teachers but what happens if the tentative agreement is not approved?

Historically tentative agreements have been approved/ratified at the next scheduled membership meeting (second Wednesday of each month) If by some chance it is not approved by the membership at that meeting then they would go back to negotiating with the city.
