I'm sitting on a BQ-3:50 (?, I've forgotten) from NYC and probably not getting in, although lord knows how many people will travel for the race; qualifiers are 85% from out-of-state. (The fun trivia is that Boston is the only large marathon where people from Massachusetts, on the whole, aren't the fastest finishers.)
So, who the heck knows.
I'm not really sure what the smaller field size gets Boston. I guess it makes transportation logistics a bit easier, and cuts down a bit on spectators, and keeps people interested for April 2022.
It would be a nice bone for the BAA to throw to local runners to say "anyone from Massachusetts with a qualifying time gets in" but maybe that's me being selfish.
