So Boston Cab isn't on Twitter, but this is what a driver did when he found Memorial Drive #CambMA closed @universalhub @MassStatePolice pic.twitter.com/56EqS44Fc2

Andrea watched a Boston Cab driver hop onto the sidewalk to get around the Sunday ban on cars down Mem. Drive.

Are we sure the driver wasn't in DCR leadership, claiming the road closure was a threat to public safety?

But cab drivers are "professionals" and BPD's Hackney Division works hard to make sure unfit drivers and vehicles are held to account.

Odds of the medallion being pulled or the driver disciplined, slim to none.

Yes, the odds of a Boston officer pulling over a cab in Cambridge are a tad low.
But could BPD Hackney division write them up based on video?

Serious violations like this must be penalized by somehow beyond just a traffic violation.
Unless he started driving on the sidewalk in Boston...

That having been said, there's something missing from the video. Where are the joggers, runners, cyclists, walkers that people would have us believe crowd Memorial Drive every Sunday? Not even one in the shot.

Or maybe, just maybe, fifteen seconds of video taken of a small portion of Memorial Drive isn't really an accurate method of assessing usage.

There's no definite edge to the ramps or their curbs. In fact, those areas wouldn't even be identifiable as ramps if it weren't for the tactile pads. The whole curb between the ramps is flush with the roadway.
And you can say "duh" all you want, but that doesn't clarify which sidewalks are for cars and which aren't, legally or in practice.
Where are videos every time a cyclist rides on the sidewalk?
By anon
Mon, 06/26/2017 - 7:53pm
Also illegal, but a daily occurrence.
Seeing a car on the sidewalk is only noteworthy because drivers and motorcyclists are so much more law abiding than bicyclists.
Interstingly, it's not illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk..

When I first got a bike, I was afraid to ride on the road with cars/trucks and I looked up the rules for Boston and Cambridge and found that it's not illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk. Although, there are some retail zones that have signs banning bikes from sections of sidewalks in front of stores/restaurants.
