The Supreme Judicial Court today upheld a man's conviction for discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building - more specifically in his case, for accidentally shooting a pal in the bedroom of his father's house by pulling the trigger on what he thought was an empty gun as he was putting it away. Around 7:35, the 586 Worcester Line train pulled into Natick Center - and then just kept going, gliding 100 yards or so down the tracks before it finally stopped, Zach Rose reports.

The Supreme Judicial Court today upheld a state commission's ruling to suspend a liquor chain's license for several days at two stores because it sold alcohol at costs lower than the invoice price it paid, in violation of state regulations. Read more.

When the heat gets too hot, Worcester and Needham Line trains have to go extra slow because, of course, the tracks weren't designed to handle regular-speed trains in the heat. Or as Goodband-C puts it when talking about what is normally 33-minute ride on the Needham Line:

The US Attorney's office today announced the arrest of the owner of the former Alpha Omega Jewelers, ten years after he fled the country after banks began questioning the loans they had given him for inventory in his Boston, Cambridge, Natick and Burlington stores that officials say didn't exist. Prevailing sentiment in progressive haunts is “2016, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” Between a stressful election season, acts of terror, and the crisis in Syria, many of us will be glad to see the calendar page turn on Sunday night. Still, to every cloud there is a silver lining, and at least when it comes to tackling climate change in the US, Massachusetts was a bright spot amidst the clouds of 2016.

The MetroWest Daily News reports on the rally in Natick Center last night, in response to last week's post-election death threat to a local resident.

Amid the toll of church bells and the honking of car horns, people held signs proclaiming "Spread Love," "Honk for Love," and "Hate has No Home in Natick."

A white man with a black tenant in Natick has gotten three notes in recent days warning them to flee the town immediately, or else. Two were stuffed in his mailbox, the third was sent via US mail (so, hey, federal offense now). Yes, he's gone to the police and, yes, they're investigating.

The Swellesley Report tells us that Boloco will close its Wellesley and Natick locations this Wednesday, October 19, turning the locations over to b.good. Boloco CEO John Pepper wrote a long letter to his MetroWest customers.

Boloco is also closing its Northeastern University location on Huntington Avenue, as well as its stores in Burlington, VT and Concord, NH. These also will become b.good.

Natick Police report the management evacuated the Jordan's Furniture and IMAX theater around 7:45 tonight after a staffer at the theater "received a live phone call stating that there was a bomb and an armed gunman inside the theater." Read more.

Vicki the roving UHub photographer wasn't doing much roving on the turnpike in Natick this afternoon when turkeys began turkeying all over the place, bringing traffic on both sides to a complete halt.

She did get a brief glimpse of one of the walking Butterballs by the Jersey barriers as she inched forward westbound.
