For the second week in a row, Mayor Walsh has declared a city heat emergency for Sunday and Monday due to expected hot temps, which means many community centers will be open as cooling centers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday (complete list). Because we're still in a Covid-19 emergency, you'll need to wear a face covering to get in - and you'll probably want to call ahead to make sure the center you want to go to hasn't reached its new, reduced capacity.

In hammocks

Roving UHub photographer Mary Ellen captured a couple of folks who set up hammocks by Leverett Pond in Olmsted Park to enjoy the day today.

Fans of cold, bitter snow, though, may only have to wait until the end of the week to be back in their element.

With a National Weather Service excessive heat warning going into effect at noon today, Boston has declared a heat emergency through Sunday evening.

If you need help finding a place to cool off, call 311. The City of Boston operates outdoor and indoor pools, splash pads and spray decks, and several beaches in Boston at which you can cool off.

At 12:15 a.m., it was 86 at Logan Airport. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning through Wednesday night - we can expect temps in the 90s with our bodies thinking it's closer to 105 due to the humidity.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sunshine, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Kids playing in spray fountains on the Greenway

Stevil probably would have joined these kids in the splash fountains on the Rose Kennedy Greenway the other day, except it would have ruined his camera.

From Harvard and Brandeis to landlords in downtown Boston, people are being asked to turn off lights and close blinds to help conserve energy so that the operator of the regional power grid doesn't have to take more extreme measures to help its electrical grid deal with all the added demand from air conditioners.

Updated to correct source of the request - ISO New England, not Eversource. Thanks, cybah!
