The Animal Rescue League is looking for whoever left a French bulldogjust outside the dog park in Peters Park in the South End one weekend in late April. A good Samaritan spotted her and brought her to a local vet, who discovered the dog's rear legs were paralyzed and she was dehydrated, had hemorrhaging in one eye and was running a temperature. Vets determined there was nothing they could do and euthanized her to put her out of her misery. While the dog's condition was hereditary, abandoning a dog is a felony in Massachusetts.

Basketball at Peters Park in the South End

From a complaint about Peters Park yesterday.

Mayor Walsh may be hesitating to call out the parks around Boston where people are still un-social-distancing for basketball, street hockey, doggie butt sniffing and boozie parties, but concerned citizens with the 311 app on their phone are not. Even as Walsh was merely threatening to taunt basketball-playing would-be contagion spreaders mercilessly at a press conference yesterday, the city's 311 database was filling up with pleas to do something.

Some examples: Read more.

Beth Treffeisen reports the Boston Arts Commission has narrowly decided to remove the Landwave sculptures in Peters Park that were meant to harken back to the area's days on the edges of Boston, but which instead turned into a dangerous playground for skateboarders and climbing kids. After removing the work, the commission will put up a plaque to commemorate it.

Wave sculpture at Peters Park in Boston's South End

A concerned citizen gets cranky on seeing the current state of the Land Wave statue-ish thing in Peters Park in the South End:

It's a nightmare. Tiles are chipped off, water pipes are exposed, the grass is overgrown. Let's be real. It should be taken down. The strip lighting on top worked for like a day and it has been a blight ever since it was installed. Who designs a perfectly climbable installation next to a little league field and then expects no one to climb it. Ridiculous waste of money. Let's cut our losses and dispose of this dumb thing. It makes the park look sad and uncared for.

SHIFTBoston posts photos of Boston's newest public art: LandWave in Peters Park, which commemorates the days when the South End was mostly under water:

Split in half, LandWave is part shimmering blue tiles when viewed from one side and part garden when viewed from the other side. The design aims to depict the history of Boston making land out of sea.
