The Hotel Buckminster in Kenmore Square announced on March 23 that it was closing, but unlike the nearby Hotel Commonwealth, says its closing is permanent. Read more.

The Atlantic takes a look on the coronavirus pandemic on air and noise pollution, and talks to a public-health researcher at Boston University, who now gets her exercise while carrying a decibel meter:

Before the coronavirus pandemic, the acoustic environment in Kenmore Square, a busy intersection near campus, is usually about 90 decibels during rush hour. Yesterday, Walker’s rush-hour readings were just under 68 decibels.

The Hotel Commonwealth in Kenmore Square says it will close tomorrow with the hopes of re-opening May 2, "though this is subject to change."

At least six other Boston hotels have closed due to a Covid-19 health issues and the related collapse of the travel business.

Developer Robert Korff has filed detailed plans for a 27-story hotel in Kenmore Square that would feature a new plaza in the middle of what is now one of the city's busiest intersections - with his hotel and a half-acre of public outdoor space in the middle. Read more.

Kenmore Square Square

The Globe reports that developer Robert Korff has proposed a 300-foot-tall hotel replacement for the Citizens Bank in Kenmore Square - and to build a new road between Commonwealth Avenue and Beacon Street.

The proposal would be a replacement for an earlier plan to build two hotels in the square, neither anywhere near as tall as the current plan, but without any major changes to the square itself.

Kenmore Square platform on the Green Line

Jesse the roving UHub photographer didn't have much room to rove at Kenmore on the Green Line around 2 p.m., due to continuing problems caused by the trolley that derailed just outside the tunnel this morning.
