A Nubian Square business and developer told the BPDA this week they will soon file detailed plans for a seven-story building between Washington Street and Harrison Avenue that will include a food hall for local chefs, a market place for local artists and artisans, residential units for artists and space for life-sciences R&D. For the second time in a week, a developer is signalling the reluctance of lenders to put money into condo projects has ended: This time with a proposal to sell 63 units at the former Immaculate Conception Church at 771 Harrison Ave. in the South End as condos, rather than renting most of them as apartments. A Kendall Square company that builds life-sciences labs has an agreement to buy an existing office building at 1000 Washington St. and a second office building under construction next door at 321 Harrison Ave., across from the Ink Block in the South End, and is seeking BPDA approval to convert the eight new floors of space for use as life-sciences labs. Smashed window at D-4 police station

Live Boston reports that around 7 p.m. on Saturday, a man walked into the D-4 police station on Harrison Avenue in the South End with a pole, which he used to smash the window separating him from the officer working the desk and then dove through the window and attacked her. Read more.

Black squirrel

Way down here in remotest Roslindale, our squirrels seem to come in one variety: Gray. So on a trip up to the South End this morning, this black squirrel, foraging along Harrison Avenue, came as a bit of a surprise.

Dangling platform

The Boston Fire Department reports one side of a platform being used by window washers at 230 Harrison Ave. in Chinatown gave way shortly before 11 a.m. gave way, leaving two workers hanging for dear life 12 stories up until firefighters arrived to get them down safely.

Steven Huntley got greedy around 11:30 yesterday morning, police say: An employee at Pizza Stop, 851 Harrison Ave., near Massachusetts Avenue, gave him a slice of pizza even though he didn't have enough money, but then Huntley started asking other customers for spare change and demanding more food.
