On an unscheduled inspection of the Sidebar on Bromfield Street last month, BPD Sgt. William Gallagher asked a young-looking customer with a draft beer for his ID. The man handed over a Dutch ID showing him to be over 21. But then Gallagher flexed the card - a standard step to check whether an ID is fake, because fake IDs often have cheap laminating that separates from the paper underneath when bent. Read more.

The two erstwhile officers at the Wentworth Institute of Technology got 30 days probation today for attempting to sell college GPS and surveying equipment on eBay, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Jonathan Carroll, Jr, 28, and Jay Cunha, 27, were charged with removing $40,000 worth of equipment from a storage unit and putting it up for sale. Unfortunately for them, another employee noticed the equipment was missing the very next day, the DA's office says. Other Wentworth officers checked out eBay to see if any of the equipment turned up there and then tracked the pair down by contacting somebody who made a successful $4,500 bid for one of the devices - a Trimble 5800 GPS.

The college was able to retrieve all of the missing equipment, the DA's office says.

Boston Police report officers responded quickly to 137 St. Alphonsus St. on Mission Hill last night on calls about gunfire and two guys with what appeared to be a machine gun.

Police say they found a group of young people in a third-floor apartment with "multiple containers of alcohol including cases of beer and several gallons of hard liquor" - and four replica pellet guns.

Police say they arrested the four tenants on charges of being keepers of a disorderly house, procuring alcohol for a minor and being minors in possession of alcohol. At least three of the four list themselves as Wentworth students on their Facebook pages.

Innocent, etc.
