Packed Blue Line substiution bus

Boston Pedestrian shows us the absence of social distancing this afternoon on a shuttle bus brought in to ferry Blue Line riders between Wonderland and Orient Heights after signals came down with Covid-19 or something and stopped working.

Zoning Board of Appeal Hearing 8-11-20

The Zoning Board of Appeals last week was scheduled to hear requests from different developers to put up the same basic sort of building at four locations in East Boston: Condo buildings with four floors and condos - all with nine parking spaces, although developers differed on whether they'd put the spaces on the ground floor or in a basement garage. Renegade's Pub, 1004 Bennington St., reports it's been burglarized twice in the past week. According to police records, the first time was sometime overnight before an employee opened up around 11 a.m. on July 1 and the second in the same time period on July 5.

The MBTA says it hopes to resume Blue Line service through the waterlogged Orient Heights station with the start of service Monday morning. Still, just in case, the T advises riders to allow some extra time. Read more.

Aftermath of the casket-company fire in East Boston

Boston firefighters remained at what was left of the New England Casket Co. this morning, continuing to hit hot spots with water to prevent any flareups of the nine-alarm fire that broke out around 3 p.m. yesterday, sending fire out windows and the roof well into the evening. Read more.

MG2 Group, which has a number of East Boston projects under way, is proposing to replace the garage at the rotary in Orient Heights with a four-story, 27-unit residential building with room for ground-floor retail. Read more.

The MBTA is reporting delays on the Blue Line due to, once again, signal problems at Orient Heights.

The Hyundai Santa Fe he was in recovered in Everett as well. Police are now looking for the guy they think took both in Orient Heights yesterday - he has a history of attacking cops. Jim Morelli reports Chief is in good shape. He is back with his owner.

UPDATE: East Boston Municipal Court Judge John E. McDonald, Jr. recused himself due to a "familial connection" to Marquado; her arraignment was delayed until April 18, the DA's office reports.

Donna Marquado, owner of Donna's Restaurant, 980 Saratoga St., faces arraignment in East Boston Municipal Court today on charges she kept $60,000 in collected state meals taxes, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.
