Zoo New England is announcing that both its zoos will re-open their outdoor exhibits to the general public on June 4 - but that you'll have to first go online to buy timed tickets in advance - no more just showing up. Also, you'll have to wear a facial covering, follow a one-way path through the exhibits and stay six feet away from other groups. Read more.

Greg Cook talks to Pete Costello, assistant curator at the Stone Zoo, about caring for animals when visitors are banned:
"Some of the animals are noticing that there are no guests here," Costello says. "They're super focused when the keepers walk by."
Among these are the white-cheeked gibbons. Zoo keepers procured a bubble machine to occupy the apes.

Sarah Bourne and other riders on a T bus headed into town on I-93 at the Fells got a little excitement this morning: They got to watch firefighters dousing flaming trash in the breakdown lane. Peter Wilson reports the driver of a truck hauling trash dumped the trash there after he realized it was on fire.

Driving through Stoneham these days, it's kind of hard to miss the fact that Round's Hardware has plenty of chairs available - they're piled high right there on Main Street.

Valerie reports her uncle lived in a Stoneham house destroyed in a three-alarm fire last night:
I am so grateful it happened at 10pm instead of 2am. If it had happened later I fear we would be planning a funeral today. John said it spread really fast. He overheard his downstairs neighbor on the phone to her DH saying that she had a candle going and it caught the curtains on fire.

Sorry, it's not really that exciting a thing, but I just can't say spuckie without an exclamation point. In any case, Richard A. reports that Dairy Dome in Stoneham sells D-Boy spuckies(!) - three eggs, ham, cheese and BBQ sauce. In fact, a gander at their menu shows they offer entire spuckie trays!
