A sticker from one of those Nazi cosplayer groups showed up in Brookline Village today. State Rep. Tommy Vitolo (D-Brookline), says: Not in my town:

Free speech doesn’t entitle anyone to lamp posts. If I see any of these hateful postings, I’m going to rip them down. I encourage you to do the same.

A concerned citizen took matters into his own hands this morning before filing a 311 complaint about a white-supremacist flier posted at Gallivan Boulevard and Dorchester Avenue that was different from the ones posted in East Boston:

Racist flyer posted on the corner of Gallivan and Dot Ave. I took down the flyer so there's no need for removal, but something needs to be done to address this incident of racism.

Phil Haggerty reports he spent the better part of an hour tearing down "the disgusting white nationalist propaganda" that went up last night on Meridian Street and in Maverick Square and Central Square Park.

Nazi flier on Boylston Street

Somebody with some anti-immigrant fliers and a bucket of wheatpaste was busy overnight plastering anti-immigrant posters in the area of Berklee College. An outraged local, Erin Kane, promptly tore down the ones she saw on Boylston Street, at Hemenway Street and Mass Ave. Read more.

Dan Kennedy acknowledges the cops had a tough job on the Common, but wonders if they might have taken some liberties with the 1st Amendment, by, for example, banning the press from the bandstand:

Let’s not kid ourselves. There was real potential for violence far beyond the skirmishes that actually took place. The Boston Police did a good job of protecting public safety. But free speech took a back seat on Saturday, and I imagine we’re going to be hearing more about that in the days to come.

Never Again

A couple dozen racists and Nazis, one dressed as a Minuteman, spent an hour or so standing on and near the Parkman Bandstand this afternoon under the baleful eyes of thousands of jeering protesters before slowly walking away and towards the Boylston Street side of Boston Common, to await a ride out in four Boston Police prisoner vans. Mayor Walsh says he'll be spending Saturday going from one barbecue to another in Boston's neighborhoods, many as part of annual "unity" events at the city's housing projects.

That, he says, is how Bostonians should react to tomorrow's racism rally at the Parkman Bandstand. Read more.

The Frog Pond on Boston Common will be shut on Saturday as part of the security arrangements for the white-supremacist rally on the Common. The city has also ordered the pushcart vendors who normally sell food and clothing on the Common to find some other place to be on Saturday.

Crowd at Holocaust Memorial vigil

Jews and supporters gathered at the Holocaust Memorial this evening to condemn the vandalism that left another of its panels shattered - and to vow to join with other victims of racists and Nazis in the fight to keep them gaining any more respectability than they already have.

Meanwhile, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports the arraignment of both the teen charged with smashing a panel etched with numbers representing Holocaust victims and a man charged with damaging flowers people had placed at the scene. Read more.

Mayor Walsh and Police Commissioner Evans said today they don't know if white supremacists and Nazis will actually show up on the Common on Saturday, but said they're taking no chances - Boston and State Police will be out in force to stop any nonsense. Read more.
