Steve asks:

Any Boston area places still selling mini Xmas trees? Do any tree farms around here cut minis?

There's a place that has trees every year that are apartment sized and by most standards "mini"

Fern Florist at Church Park (200-ish Mass Ave, across from the Mother Church, by the CVS) typically has a variety of smaller trees and table-top trees. I haven't wandered over yet this year, but have always had luck with them the last 8 or 9 years. Close enough to walk to Orange and Green lines.

Unless you're going to a cut your own forest, all the trees you see for sale have been grown specifically for the purpose. The mini ones might even be planned thinning of a field of trees that will let the remaining ones grow larger.

And for people who decry the cutting of trees every year, those trees do a lot of good for the air as they're growing. And the only reason they get planted in the first place is because people can make a living from them.

You might consider buying a small fragrant rosemary tree. After you’ve finished celebrating Christmas you can use the branches when roasting meats and vegetables...it won’t go to waste! Buy one at Whole Foods or a similar market.
