NBC Boston reports the MSPCA will open distribution centers at its Jamaica Plain, Methuen and Centerville locations on Sunday morning to give bags of dog and cat food to federal workers who are no longer getting paid.
A group of dog owners are trying to persuade DCR to use some of its parkland along the Charles River for an area where dogs could play and roam. Read more.

Brenda Sweetland reports her son's boa constrictor escaped somehow yesterday. It was last spotted by her mailman scrunched up next to a house on Richard Street near Dudley Street.

Boston Animal Control is caring for a poodle mix in bad shape that was found in a bucket Tuesday night at the Court Square Press building at 9 West Broadway - as inspectors try to find whoever was responsible for the dog's condition. Read more.

WBZ reports the dog, now at the MSPCA's Angell Medical Center in Jamaica Plain, was found by a passerby on Friday at Centre and Willow streets.
