Green water at Jamaica Pond

Only some of that green is due to reflections off the trees.

The Boston Public Health Commission announced yesterday that a bloom of toxic blue-green algae means Jamaica Pond's water is no longer safe to go in or fish in. Read more.

Transit Police report arresting a Quincy man they say was sitting in a seat on an Orange Line train at Forest Hills Saturday evening when he "got up from his seat ran towards the train's window and kicked it causing it to shatter." Read more.

Tromboinists do slides on a slide at Wake Up the Earth

A pair of trombonists worked on their slides while on the homemade slides at the return of the Wake Up the Earth Festival in the Southwest Corridor Park in Jamaica Plain today. Greg Cook took the photo along with many other photos of both the festival and the parade that proceeded it.

A Transit Police officer who dragged a man off a bus, used his knee on the man's back to hold him to the ground for 20 seconds, then pushed his head into the pavement had his case continued without a finding for 18 months, which means the charges will go away if he stays out of trouble for that time, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. The Mayor's Mural Crew's usual medium is paint on cement, but to honor Frederick Law Olmsted's 200th birthday, it turned to a material he probably knew well: Moss.

Lots of turtles at Jamaica Pond

The turtles were out in force at Jamaica Pond today. In addition to the premium location on the branches near the northern end of the pond, like the guys above, there were turtles along the parkway and even on a bunch of downed branches along Parkman Drive that geese had made their own - until today, at least.

Banana Republic jacket

Hamel was in Bussey Brook Meadow (the "wild" part of the Arboretum across Washington Street from the Forest Hills T stop) yesterday, picking up trash for Earth Day, but lost her Banana Republic denim jacket (which looks like the one above). If anybody spots it, let us know.

Site of new coffeehouse in Jamaica Plain

The new coffeehouse will go behind the blue grate.

The Public Church, which now holds services at the Fenway Community Center, is planning to open a coffeehouse at 180-190 Hyde Park Ave. in Jamaica Plain, one that will serve as its place of worship on alternate Sunday evenings. Read more.
