12-year-old arrested on gun charges in Dorchester after running from stolen car driven by a 16-year-old, police say

Boston Police report officers arrested a 12-year-old boy who ran from a stolen car on Stratton Street while clutching a loaded handgun Monday afternoon.

Police say officers responded to Stratton Street in Franklin Field on a report of a stolen vehicle around 1:50 p.m.

Upon officers’ arrival, the passenger exited the stolen motor vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect could be seen clutching his waist area and discarding a firearm. Officers apprehended the 12-year-old suspect and recovered the firearm, which was determined to be a 9mm, loaded with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.

The driver of the car, 16, was also arrested, police say.

Police say the pre-teen was charged as delinquent for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm. The teen was charged with being delinquent for receiving a stolen motor vehicle and driving without a license, police say.
