Chelsea School Committee member and former youth mentor charged with enticing 12-year-old into car and raping him

Henry Wilson

Henry Wilson, 56, of Chelsea, was arraigned today on charges of rape of a child aggravated by an age difference of at least 10 years and enticement of a child, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

According to the DA's office:

During a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County, the victim disclosed that, on June 28, 2021, he was walking in the area of Broadway in Chelsea when an adult male offered him a ride in his car. The man drove him to a parking lot and sexually assaulted the child in the car. Parts of the sexual assault were captured on cell phone camera.

A Chelsea District Court judge set bail at $50,000 and ordered Wilson to stay away from the victim and his family, have no unsupervised contact with any children under 18, do no volunteer or paid work with children, wear a GPS device and hand over his passport.

Wilson was elected to the School Committee from District 5 in 2019, after terms on the city Planning Board and Zoning Board and after having run for the City Council in 2017. He also served as "a youth mentor with CPS students," according to his bio on the School Committee Web site. Also he was a member of the summer youth jobs program at the Chelsea Collaborative.

Innocent, etc.

At 56 my guess is this wasn't his first time but just the first time he was caught. How many more victims haven't felt safe to come forward?

What's Suffolk DA ratio of press conferences to conviction for violent crimes where the defendant is not dead?

When this sort of thing happened in "the good old days", victims were not believed, everything possible was done to protect the important person's reputation, and nothing was done as the number of victims mounted.

I'm glad that people listen to kids now, and I hope this young person can find healing, support, and solace.

And today we're on the opposite extreme. The public is quick to find guilt after an accusation is made, before the case makes it through court.

The "presumption of guilt" has been directed towards victims for so many centuries that if the pendulum has to swing a little too far in the other direction before evening out, I'm prepared to live with that.

If the end result is that men realize they have to be 100% absolutely, positively sure that they have affirmative consent before initiating sex, that's a net plus.

because there's camera footage of the crime. I hear what you're saying, but you're definitely picking the wrong event to hang your argument on.

The nature of the charge, the identity of the victim, and the apparent evidence doesn't matter.

You're giving him a lot of credit for assuming that he actually thought about the particulars of this event before posting. I'm sure he makes the same argument ("Women are liars") whenever any report of any sexual assault appears in any context.
