Boston Restaurant Talk reports Cafe Polonia on Dorchester Avenue has closed for good. Baltic European Deli, across the street, however, remains open.
But rather the start of Methadone Mile.
Tell us about those places called restaurants you had in the before times...
this makes me very sad, one of my favorites
But you could only go there if you let yourself get REALLY hungry first. Huge portions. We will miss this place. Presumably the last Polish restaurant in Boston. (Any survive in some suburb somewhere?)
Still a few restaurants in Chicopee.
Polonus Deli in Salem
They're located inside the mall outside of the Peabody Essex museum.
DJ's Market is right down the street from Cafe Polonia and blows this place out of the water, like not even a contest. We went to Polonus in Sept. when we were on vacation in Salem and they were so fucking rude to us and their dozen pierogi plate was almost $20! They don't even make their own paczki!
I'll miss having a sit down Polish restaurant, but DJ's Market is the best in Boston when it comes to Polish stuff. 120 Boston street, they're on UberEats, Grubhub, and Postmates too.
Sorry to hear it. But glad that Baltic Deli is still open.
How are DJs and Euromart doing?
DJ's and Euromart are still open and offering all the Polish goodies - just a shame that there is no proper restaurant in the Polish Triangle. Perhaps someday one will come back to take Cafe Polonia's place.
This sucks . Only one of it's kind and even was on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. As a regular for years right to end, I am saddened by this.
If they only hung in there until the neighborhood finally turned around in 2057.
I know the lower end and the triangle have always had a bad rap but it seemed, maybe around 10 years ago, that it was starting to turn around.
Then the bridge closed and now it's just a wasteland. Pretty sad what Andrew's become.
The juxtaposition of upper class and comparitively "rich" people versus the sick and/or dying drug addicts wandering the area is utterly bizarre.
Washington Village isn't gonna happen anytime soon and if and when it finally does it's gonna be 50% empty and destroy street traffic entirely.
"Way to go, Marty.
And thanks!" signed Mr. Fish
"bridge closed"? Where?
The bridge to Long Island. I live up the street from Andrew, and end up with shopping carts from South Bay on our sidewalks and people falling asleep on the green outside. I've called 911 multiple times due to people who can barely walk, and even once someone passed out on the side walk in front of my building. It sucks for us, it sucks more for them.
The bridge that took the homeless to the shelter on the island. Now they have no where to go and have spread out in the neighborhoods around BMC and Woods Mullen.
I surmise. Basically one of the key reasons why Methadone Mile has become the problem it is today.
oh fer cryin' out loud....
Can we put a statute of limitations on Long Island Bridge being the excuse for everything?
I’m grateful that I got a few chances to eat here. These types of
Places are what makes a city a city and I hope the small ethnic groceries and restaurants can make it through covid and gentrification waves. It makes me bummed to imagine what Boston and other American cities might look like in 5 to 10 years where everything is slick or an imitation of authenticity
I guess you think that because prices are rising that gentrification is taking over the Polish Triangle? Sorry, it was always a nice, stable place, just some of the people who live there are changing.
I mean 224 Boston was there about 25 years ago. Is that gentrification or just a good place to eat?
Besides, hate to tell you who is selling their places in the Polish Triangle (Hint - It is not Swahilis or Finns).
Cafe Polonia reopened!
It happened back in January. But I was just thinking about them, and rereading this thread and others about European stores and restaurants in the area, when I happened to see a Facebook post of theirs. So I checked, and they're open!
