At 11:18 a.m., Derek Lumpkins reported his lights flickered twice in Roxbury. Nicole Levay reported same, in downtown Boston, at 11:15 and 11:16. Reports of double flickering also came in from Hyde Park, JP and Brookline.

Brookline school officials announced today they have sent notices of potential layoffs to teachers and staffers in an attempt to patch a $6.3-million hole in its budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1 - but that it is still looking at ways to bring the workers back in time for the start of school this fall. The Brookline Transportation Division reports both the Select Board and the Transportation Board have approved an "open streets" plan to reallocate some of the asphalt along Harvard Street, Longwood and Brookline avenues and part of Beacon Street for use by people not in cars so that they can get around while maintaining social distance, at least during the current Covid-19 emergency. Brookline Police report a judge yesterday issued a warrant for the man they say defaced the Chabad Center at 496 Harvard St. with antisemitic graffiti in Russian and a poor attempt at a swastika early Sunday - now they just have to find him. Read more.

The town of Brookline announced today that the firefighter whose temperature spike sparked the shutdown of Station 5 on Babcock Street has tested positive for Covid-19 and that two other firefighters at the station "have developed symptoms and are awaiting their test results." Read more.

The Brookline Fire Department announced tonight it's temporarily shut Station 5, on Babcock Street, after a required shift-change temperature check this morning showed one firefighter was running a slight temperature - which then increased over the course of the day.
