Two Boston teens charged for gunfire in Cambridge's Central Square

Cambridge Police report arresting two Boston 15-year-olds for gunfire in Central Square on the evening of May 13.

Separately, police report gunfire around 2:05 a.m. today in the area of Bishop Allen Drive and School Street. No injuries reported, but one window was shattered.

Police say that gunfire at Pearl Street and Massachusetts Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. on May 13 was preceded by "two groups of teenage males" seen converging on the area. After the gunfire, one group of males was spotted running away, police say.

Nearby Cambridge Police Officers quickly responded to the area. After canvassing the area, Officers were able to locate and stop one of the males on Green Street. He was taken into the station for questioning. Officers also recovered two shell casings on Pearl Street and another on Massachusetts Avenue. Fortunately, there were no victims.

Surveillance video from Central Square stores helped lead police to the two suspects, who were arrested at their homes early this morning, police say, adding Boston and Northeastern Police and federal marshals also helped in the investigation.

One teen, from Roxbury, was charged with armed assault to murder, carrying a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 fee of a building, possession of a firearm in a felony and unlaw possession of a firearm. The other, from West Roxbury, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and accessory after the fact, police say, adding both are scheduled for arraignment in Middlesex Juvenile Court today.

Super unsettling to hear kids this young are even thinking of wielding a gun unabashedly, let alone crimes of death.
