Jim the roving UHub photographer spotted a cross-country skier "playing through" the 4th hole at the William Devine Golf Course in Franklin Park around 2:30 p.m. today.
But after the sun went down, Laura Castañón reports, the coyotes came out:
The pups and I were tailed by a group of four coyotes in Franklin Park tonight. My nerves are shot and my voice is fried from yelling, but zero dogs were eaten. ...
They popped out of the woods along the golf course, near the Shattuck softball field. I doubt they’d be so bold during the day, but it was just after dusk.
She says screaming at the coyotes managed to keep them at something of a difference, but they kept tracking her and her two dogs as they beat a retreat off the golf course.
To be clear: hazing was totally effective. I was on the golf course, so there was nothing to throw, but yelling and arm-waving definitely stopped their approach. As much as my heart was pounding in the moment, I love that we can coexist with predators in cities.
