Jamaica Plain residents stood with candles at at least three spots along Centre Street this evening - at the Monument, in front of the Baptist Church and by Lakeville Street - to protest proposed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Short haired women and a lab. Only thing missing is a Prius with a coexist sticker which I’m sure is there and out of frame.
But it was mine, and I'm not from JP, so it doesn't count.
What’s the point of the vigils in JP, our two senators are obviously going to vote no to his confirmation. Drive up to Maine and hold one in front of Senator Collins’ office if you want to make a difference. She will likely be one of the swing votes.
The point is solidarity, Murkin, and working the turf we've been given.
Thank you, Jeri, for organizing this event. Heads up that we were in front of the JP UU church, not the Baptist church.
It was great to meet all of you there.
There were several vigil points along Centre Street. In addition to the one in the photo, which, yes, was in front of the Monument outside the UU church, there was also one in front of the Baptist church across from the post office. I didn't photograph that one because I was lazy and didn't want to walk all the way over from the municipal lot, which would have been the closest place to find parking.
Adam's T delay puns are especially beloved by Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill, who delight in these daily stories of the failures of government funded mass transit. While on UHub, these congressmen will often wander through Adam's other intrepid reporting of the day while waiting for their staff to deliver their lunch or usher in the next lobbyist.
By cleverly holding signs and candles within Boston city limits - which would surely be soon discovered by Adam - these astute protesters must have known that they would soon have the eyes and attention of the powerful and influential, along with the smoking Orange Line cars and voyeuristic turkeys.
More power to them.
Abolition protests were held here too.
Even though slavery was illegal in MA.
And the civil rights movement would never have succeeded without people outside the Jim Crow South joining the fight.
Jeez, why did the American colonialists even protest here?
All the legislators and King George were in England, right?
and a scary cult-like one at that.
It has articles of faith that may not be questioned, it has an inquisition, it has militants, it's got it all.
I've disagreed with the previous president's choices for the scotus. I thought the Wise Latina was an ethnic chauvinist whose willingness to be a neutral arbiter of law left quite a bit to be desired. But never did I engage in rituals to ward of the evil lefty spirits.
I'm not even joking. I think y'all have lost it. 2016 put you off balance and Kavanaugh tipped you over the edge. No more pluralism, no more tolerance, no more rule of law, no more letting people eat their fucking dinner in peace, no more logic. Just hate and insanity and lots of it.
Get a grip for your own sakes.
The other side was the same way for 8 years.
Well, except that there were probably no such rallies on deep red regions against the nomination of Kagen. They might just have had better things to do.
No more pluralism, no more tolerance, no more rule of law, no more letting people eat their fucking dinner in peace, no more logic. Just hate and insanity and lots of it.
So when Trump and his cronies do that to literally 3/4 of the population of the US it's OK. But it's not OK for someone to actually question a GOP rep while not in the Fox News safe space?
It's Trump who is proposing striking down the 1st amendment and suggesting his supporters kill journalists and "liberals". The people at the protests just want a supreme court nominee who didn't get blackout drunk at times and isn't planning on taking away a women's right to decide what happens to her body.
Then you might learn that a number of those supposed violent incidents at the Trump rallies were instigated by professional agitators. Project Veritas had them on video explaining it all.
Oh, right up there with Breitbart. Thanks, was wondering just how much I should discount everything you say.
Or is your opinion of Breitbart, PJ Media, and all the rest of them informed solely by the half-coherent rants on NPR about Gay Frogs...sorry Gay Nazi Frogs...damn it...Nazi Frogs!
Nice Polite Republicans radio?
And the gay baby frogs is Alex Jones. Come on, how can you convince us we're All Wrong when you can't even get your own players straight?
Are there any conservative people in your social circle?
At all. If so, disregard the rest of this. If not...is that by design?
I listen to NPR almost every day and I can practically hear the smirks on the newsreaders' mouths when they talk about anything right of hard left. Do you honestly thing your Nice Polite Republicans is anywhere near reality?
That's radical nihilism and radical fascism.
Conservative is the Rockafellers. Conservative is the social platform of Nixon.
You need to learn some history to learn that CONSERVATIVE means to CONSERVE not to destroy with random bullshit and lies.
Radical nihilism is "I don't care if he actually did it, someone somewhere did so this guy here gets tarred and feathered for it because fuck due process and fuck logical reasoning."
Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!Ha ha ha ha!
Put down the paranoid stupid pills, dude. Project Veritas is the biggest joke in "reporting" the planet has ever seen.
Any monkey with thumbs can carefully spice shit and overdub, hon.
Yeah, some people have an almost religious attachment to things like telling the truth, respecting the balance of power in the American government, appointing impartial people of mature judgment instead of political operatives who are whiny man-babies, you know, weird cult-like things like that. I hear even some people are so crazy that they think that people with a history of sex crimes shouldn't be appointed to positions of power. Crazy, right?
What's your religion like? Did you bring it over from the old country?
I agree with some of what you say, but will you stick up for someone on the other side of the aisle who is telling the truth? What balance of government are you speaking about? I assume you are talking of the branches because there is no such thing of balance of ideology in govt. The balance of branches is long gone, so let's stop pretending it exists. Congress gave up its power long ago to the president and most people are fine with that when it's their person in power. As for the court, I'd sure as hell not prefer 9 people from elite schools to have so much power (it was originally to be the weakest branch), like whether I can marry another person of the same sex.
What history of sex crimes? For Brett? The mob justice crimes that are unproven and a prosecutor would never pursue? Maybe if you were talking about Trump, I'd somewhat understand, but still, you're convicting someone who has not even had a formal charge.
Finally, man baby? What, because he teared up when he remembered how is wife or children got crazy calls at night or realized how their lives are getting ruined? Judges are to be impartial when ruling on law, not when they are defending their family or their own honor. I'm sure you'd be as cool as a cucumber if it was you at the committee.
We found another one.
Manbaby - yes, manbaby who clearly has infantile reactions to any resistance to his special entitlement sauce.
You want "ruined lives" - check out the treatment that Ford continues to get.
Or you could start your own support group: manbabies who like beer for manbabies!
Take your own medicine, Roman. You really are mentally ill. Please seek help.
Shhh don't make eye contact.
A diverse crowd as usual.
Do you make similar comments about Trump rallies with audiences as white as sheets?
White equals bad. Especially when one of yours says it about one of ours. But not when one of ours throws it back in your face. Because you're woke.
You're just irritable. They have creams for that.
You do not.
I applaud these folks for their stand out. Good for them for standing up for their beliefs. But I do find it funny how the majority of the gatherings in Rozzie and JP where people are preaching diversity and equality, etc. are often the least diverse groups around (so much so that they don't reflect the actual diversity in the greater neighborhood).
A good example is when Trump won the election. Some "really upset" folks in Rozzie got together to protest Trump, promote diversity, etc. while banging pots and pans together in Rozzie Square (yes, grown adults banding pots and pans together). It was a group consisting almost entirely of white middle-age people. In stark contrast from the actual makeup of Rozzie Square during any other time of day - which is all races, ages, etc.
stay woke y'all
When the Quebec government decided to both screw over students and silence them with draconian measures, EVERYONE turned out to bang pots and pans.
Sorry if that doesn't satisfy any wild west fantasies of gunfire in the streets, but banging pots and pans gets shit done.
Pantsuit Pocahontas pointing finger, shaking head on live TV at staged DC rally against Judge Kavanaugh, carefully staged in front of a Muslim in headscarf, an Asian and a black person clinging to her. Meanwhile the un-staged picture from her hometown is all white.
It would take a heart of stone not to laugh. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) lying about Native American ancestry (1/32 at best) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) lying about his "combat service in Vietnam" (he was never near Vietnam) questioning the Hon. Judge Kavanaugh about truthfulness? Sick.
Great to see Republicans now surging in mid-term voter interest in key states.
Not even close.
...and a liar, and in no position to call anyone else a liar. Hey Fish, what was your FISH COP badge number? Put up or shut up.
Bwaaaaaahahahaha! Keep smoking crack, Fishy, it'll help block out the unpleasant reality. The shrinking GOP consists of plutocrats and grifters and their willing, stupid, torpid victims, and the latter can't be bothered to get up unless they dropped the remote.
