Eve - the day or period of time immediately before an event or occasion.
They decided pies are too hard to bake themselves.
If you are a pie baker, a line like this ain't worth it.
If this were a cake expectation holiday, I'd wait in that line.
My parents and grandparents called it that.
People who do most of the cooking tend to think of it in those terms.

(this year I get to just show up with a bottle of wine and some sweets, so all I have to do is cover pomegranate apils with tempered dark chocolate and drag that bottle of cremant out of the fridge and I'm set)

Looks like a blast standing in a long line in pouring rain for a pie
...but Renee and her crew were working hard despite a malfunctioning oven. She told those waiting that if they can come back in Thanksgiving morning, they'd be open at 7 am for pickup. I can't imagine a worse day for an oven failure for a bakery.
